Codename Ubuntu 8.04 "Hardy Heron"

Di komunitas Ubuntu ada satu momen yang sering dinanti oleh para pengguna Ubuntu, yaitu momen dimana codename pengembangan untuk rilis Ubuntu berikutnya diumumkan. Codename Ubuntu sendiri memang cukup unik, sistem penamaannya berasal dari frase nama binatang dengan variasi rima atau huruf depan yang bersesuaian. Dan pada tanggal 29 Agustus 2007, Jono Bacon (Ubuntu Community Manager) telah mengumumkan codename pengembangan untuk rilis Ubuntu 8.04 yang dinamakan: "Hardy Heron".

Berikut adalah kutipan pengumuman codename tersebut:

Hi Folks,

I am delighted to have the pleasure of announcing the Hardy Heron
(Ubuntu 8.04), the next version of Ubuntu that will succeed Gutsy Gibbon
(Ubuntu 7.10, due for release in October 2007). Not only will the Ubuntu
community continue to do what it does best, produce an easy-to-use,
reliable, free software platform, but this release will proudly wear the
badge of Long Term Support (LTS) and be supported with security updates
for five years on the server and three years on the desktop. We look
forward to releasing the Hardy Heron in April 2008.

Sebagai informasi tambahan, rilis Ubuntu 8.04 juga merupakan rilis yang dinanti-nanti para pengguna Ubuntu terutama bagi kalangan enterprise karena rilis tersebut disebut sebagai rilis LTS (Long Term Support); calon penerus Ubuntu 6.06 LTS. Dimana Anda akan mendapatkan support lebih lama dibandingkan rilis biasa, yaitu 3 tahun untuk desktop dan 5 tahun untuk server.

Jadi untuk para pengguna Ubuntu jangan sampai terlewatkan kesempatan untuk mencoba rilis Ubuntu 8.04 yang merupakan rilis puncak dari pengembangan Ubuntu sejak rilis LTS sebelumnya diluncurkan. Sampai jumpa nanti di bulan April 2008.

klo ternyata ga jalan coba buka terminal ketik sudo apt-get install xserver-xgl restart kompie cek di

apperance-desktop effect-pilih custom..

nah tinggal otak atik tu compiznya...

pengalaman gw pake DVD repo tu kadang ada file dependency yang ga ada kaya buat aktipin ccsm gw mesti donlot lagi ke warnet file python-compizconfig karena tu file kaga ada ternyata di DVD repo...yaa biarpun kecil tetep aja suka bikin jengkel...Bukan hanya itu aja tapi file-file laen juga banyak yang ilang.Tau kenapa apa gw yang sial ato DVDnya yang cacat ato jg emang lupa kemasukin tuh....

Sebenarnya tidak perlu ke warnet kok, dvd repo nya sudah lengakap cuma file-file yang diperlukan untuk mengaktifkan compiz memang tidak terletak di satu dvd jadi ya harus cari-cari di kelima dvdnya. Aku sendiri juga sempat bingung, tapi akhirnya aku buat repo local di harddisk, lalu install dari situ, jadi tidak masalah lagi.
Catatan: Ini waktu aku pake Ubuntu 7.10, semoga di Ubuntu 8.04 tidak.
